Freeride at the Olympics for the first time. We want to be there

The International Olympic Committee has confirmed freeride in the programme of the Alpes 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps. For our sport it is a historic milestone – and for the Czech Freeride Team the start of a journey on which we want to fight for an Olympic start.

A historic milestone for our sport

On 7 July 2026 the International Olympic Committee confirmed freeride in the programme of the Alpes 2030 Olympic Winter Games. From 1 to 17 February 2030, Olympic freeride will be held for the first time in the French Alps: 44 riders (22 women and 22 men) will start, competing for medals in four disciplines on skis and snowboards.

From Verbier to the Olympics

In two decades, freeride has grown from a fringe part of mountain culture into an organised international sport with clear rules. From the first big competition, the Xtreme Verbier in 1996, through the creation of the Freeride World Tour to its integration into the International Ski and Snowboard Federation FIS – the Olympic Games are the next logical step.

Every generation of athletes gets a chance like this only a handful of times. Snowboarding got it in Nagano in 1998, ski mountaineering in Milano Cortina in 2026. Now it's freeride's turn.

Timeline: 1996 Xtreme Verbier, 2008 the Freeride World Tour is founded, 2022 FWT joins FIS, 2024 official FIS discipline, 2026 first FIS World Championships, 2030 Olympic debut

We want to fight for it

Czech riders regularly compete in the Freeride World Tour Qualifier series and finish near the top. So far, though, mainly thanks to their own passion – they mostly fund their seasons themselves, combine them with work or studies, and travel across Europe and to the other side of the world to race.

There are four winters left until the Olympic season. Our ambition is for the first Czech freerider to stand in the Olympic start gate in 2030. Just as important to us is building a pathway for the generations that follow: camps for newcomers, mentoring, safety education and systematic athlete development.

We don't want to be the first. We want others to follow us.

We're looking for partners for the journey

We're not just looking for sponsors, but for partners with whom we want to take Czech competitive freeride further – companies, experts and sports institutions. If you'd like to be there at the birth of a new Olympic sport in the Czech Republic, get in touch.
